I recently moved to Arizona from Chicago in early September of 2005. I also started work at Toys R Us in middle of September. Do I file my taxes for Illinois or Arizona?

For 2005 you should have filed for both Illinois and Arizona. For 2006 you should only file for Arizona.

You have to file one federal return no matter how many states you worked in. You have to file in each state, though, for which you had taxes withheld, or should have had taxes withheld.

i think your best bet would be to go to a tax preparing place or buy turbotax..this is what i use and there is a question on there that asks if you have any other income in another state..that is what i would do to be on the safe side because you do have to file taxes from both states.

SORRY DO YOU MEAN 2006?2005 TAXES SHOULD HAVE ALREADY BEEN DONE.

You will have to file in both if you worked in both states.

You'll combine everything for your federal return, and file it from Arizona.

For state, you'll file in each state as a part-year resident, showing the income you made while living in that state.
