Focus on the nose! I have the same problem to, i mean c'mon I dont want to be STARING at the guy. I just try to focus on the bridge of the nose. And if all else fails just fake it. Try and glance everyonce in a while otherwise you look dishonest.

Picture yourself, for a moment, the person you're interviewing. Are they seeing an authoritative figure? It's up to you ! You get to be a confident, self assured, person in charge ! Or they will see the top of your head and wonder , What's wrong with this character, why cant he make eye contact? What's he hiding, why is he frightened? The other person doesn't know you,yet ! That first impression is in YOUR control !
P.S. Looking in the mirror is good practice for doing speeches, but not for 1 on 1 eye contact,& don't stare.Good Luck

ask yourself why eye contact doesn't come easy. is it because you're intimidated? eye contact is a great way to show interest in what another person is saying. and the mirror trick doesn't work because you've been staring into your own eyes for years and years. a good way to start, at least the way i did it, was to get a close friend to interview you. you shouldn't have trouble with him/her. then get one of their friends who you dont know so well to do the same. you know them but you don't so it'll be more comfortable that being with a stranger. and if all else fails, just think "this person puts their pants on one leg at a time just like everybody else so why the heck should i be afraid to look at them in the eye!"

Problems with eye contact generally come from 2 things a lack of self confidence or you're not a trustworthy person. I would think it's just a lack of self-confidence. One of the things that I have tried doing is focusing on something close to their eyes like thier glasses or hair. I also find that it helps to be expressive so using hand motions and vocal inflections while you're talking can take your midn off of it and give you opportunities to look away temporarily and then gear up to look them in the eye again. Another good thing to do is find someone where you don't have trouble with eye contact and then when you're in the interview visualize that person is the person you're comfortable with.

Heres a trick a professional public speaker taught me. If you feel odd looking directly into their eyes look at the top of their nose instead, between their eyebrows . To them it looks like you are making eye contact . Smile while you are doing it and count to 10 then look away repeat whenever they start talking.

Practice on a dog. Seriously! They won't judge you! They might look at you funny while you're talking to them and looking at them, but it's better than talking to yourself in the mirror!
Other than that, just make a real attempt, and remind yourself, to look people in the eyes. Make it a game for yourself... like a challenge. That always works for me!

MY best advice to you is learn about shyness that should help you with your eye contact. Everyone needs to have a good eye contact if they want to succeed or else your employer will always think your hiding something.

If it makes you uncomfortable to look them in the eyes (it can be awkward, I know) try looking right above their eyes. When you look right above them, like say near their eyebrows, it appears 100% like you are looking at them, but may be a little more comfortable for you.

Look past the person. Stare them down and tell that sonuvabitch who's boss.
Practice on random people in the street.

Try taking big breaths before the interview.Don't think about anything else except you're answer and what you're saying.Nothing else matters besides that.
That always helps me anyway!
