A room that everyone sees. No carpet is a plus because you might have a spill. A room with a stable temperature around 75 degrees. Not in bright sunlight. You need a close power outlet. Access to all sides helps. You need a work space near it to set things when you maintain it. You need space underneath for the filters. Get a small tank, much easier to care for, 5 gallons is plenty to get the full effect. Get at least 10 times the filter they recommend for it because the whole trick to having a successful tank is keeping the water clean. A highly populated small tank looks better than a big tank. You can have 10 or 20 small fish per gallon, if you keep the water clean. If you don't keep the water clean you will have problems fast. More tank light is always better.

Location is everything! Choose a place that does not have too much traffic - the noise and constant activity can be disturbing to fish. Also, keep it away from direct sunlight. Bad things happen when it is exposed to that.
Also, don't keep it near a register or vent where it will get super hot in the winter or super cold in the summer. Other than that, sky's the limit!
I had a 55 gallon in my bedroom and I absolutely loved it - especially at night. :-)

Your tank needs to be away from outside doors and from windows. The temp needs to be pretty constant. If you get sensitive types of fish the room needs to be a calm one. If there are lots of electronics in the room you might not want the extra humidity of a fish tank in there.

Keep it in the room with your thermostat, that way you should have to worry about your heater in the tank overworking itself and burning out causing your tank to be extremely cold in the winter. This is what I have to do, I went through a lot of heaters before figuring this out. But I live in Ohio, so it kind of depends I guess.

Somewhere that your tank is not in direct sunlight otherwise you will have constant outbreaks of algae.
Somewhere that is easy to access for water changes etc.
Close to a water supply.
Close to a electricity supply for filter, heater, light etc.
Somewhere quiet where it won't stress the fish out.
Good Luck!

i would say a living room, because people could walk in your house and notice how wonderful fish tanks really are. but remember not to put it near a window due to the fact that sunlight may enter and cause your algea growth to sky rocket

Living room if you want to display it and if it's a big tank. I actually seen some in bedrooms too.

I keep mine in the bedroom so that at night I can watch the fish. It is very peaceful.!!

I also have one in the computer room so when I am on the computer I can watch them.

Whichever room you go to relax. Just keep out of direct sunlight, UV rays promote algae growth.
