I always do this. Everytime someone is going through something, I always make their problems my own. I don't know why I do it. It's like I feel guilty that I am not suffering the way that they are. Is is normal to feel this way in a situation?

Your feeling toward your fellow man is quite admirable. To many times we tend to try and minimize others pain or shun others problems. We need to look beyond the mortal realm and realize that what ever being created this life, is what we need to be more concerned about. I commend you for caring of and about others. Most times people get caught up in their own selfishness without regard to lives and living going on around them. Anger and frustration abound as well as jealousy and grudge. You are a special human that reaches out to others and I promise you a reward from Life that will enrich you beyond what you have now.

Thank you for your caring and your generosity

My Grandmother was a very smart woman. She told me when I was a little kid that most People are no damned good. The best way to deal with the day to day bums and street weirdos is to wear ipod headphones. You don't even have to have them plugged in. If someone really tries to get in your face, point at the headphones and loudly say "I CAN'T HEAR YOU". If it is co-workers, let them deal with their own problems. You don't sh!t where you eat... keep your personal life and your work life 100 percent separate. Learn to focus on your own needs. Life is better when you learn to ignore people and their petty little problems. In time you will even learn to laugh at other people's problems over cocktails.

It's normal, but not healthy. What you are doing is showing sympathy, and that doesn't help you or the person going through difficult times. A healthier approach is to show empathy...identify with, or understand what a person may be going through, and then react with support.

It's not stupid, it's human and it's called compassion. You shouldn't feel guilty at all you should let these feelings motivate you to do things to help. Turn it around into a positive.

it is called emphaty. and if it's driving you to extreme situations you should see a professional, otherwise just be compassionate but take care of your problems before trying to fix someone else's.
