Now that, my friend, is a very good question. There is no doubt that there will be some, if not, many people out there that will jump up and down by your statement before getting all the facts.
Yes, this country "used" to be a democracy, but that was way before I was born. In todays world, we are controlled by our elected officials. Our voice doesn't mean anything.
Now, my question is, is Bush pushing these countries into so called democracy or is it the large corporations which is controlling our administration to do these tasks? Is there more than what we are fed and led to believe on the news media, going on under our noses?
9-11 for example. Seek and ye shall find. Sadly, you do not really want to know as the "truth" will shock you. I'm shocked at what I found. A repeat of Northwoods [1962]?

Ok, so why isn't the US a democracy? Why don't you go and live a week in Iran and you will know what a democracy is. Also I suppose since we aren't a democracy your dead right now. Because if we were in a country run by Hussein, Castro, or ahmidinijab, you would be begging for your life for saying what you did.
Also if we were under a liberal president (first of all we wouldn't be bombing them they would be bombing us) you would have a totally different view on things. There is so much dissent in this country it will fall apart like Rome. We were once founded on a great concept, but Anarchists, Anti-right, and Anti-Religious left have brought us down, and were are sinking. A new dark age isn't far off at this trend. And it's the sad truth.

The US is a democracy. Yes, it is what the people want, but it is a government that is FOR the people. Currently we have a Republican, many of who actually believe sovereignty lies within the people. However, like barbers say, "You must finish what you have started." Bush isn't just gonna cut and run and leave the job half finished.
Iraq does not need a democracy. Look at what happened after Saddam Hussein was captured. The whole place went to !@#$. The Iraqi people are used to being controlled, and despite their protests, they are used to this system and it may take years for Iraqis to get used to the concept that political sovereignty lies within THEM. Americans are used to freedom; what if China waged a war on us in order to instill Communism? THEY think it is right, we do not. In the case of the War in Iraq, America is "them."

Russia and other communist countries were not and are also not communist (Commonwealth), sharing the wealth with the States and people.
Socialism is not and was not Socialist.
Autocrat ism technically and realistically are not Autocratic.
etc, etc, etc.
Go to work, enjoy the wealth of your country and shut up. I'm sure if the cows and pigs you eat every day could stand up and fight for control, eventually they to will one day abuse their status of being in control and whatever doctrine they go by. And there are plenty of other countries you could live in, like ones that will cut your head off for stealing a turnip.

you are correct in the sense that no western Government has a democracy in the true sense of the word. That said the system does end up working in the end and no-one has come up with a better idea yet.
Bush would almost certainly get kicked out at the next election if he was running.

It's amazing that we enjoy flexing our muscles to make nations adopt the same ways as we do, and boasting that we're the most generous nation in the world. Granted, we give the most money in terms of dollars. However, basing the amount we give in terms of a percentage of GNI, we're the meanest wealthy miser, compared with so many nations:

And yet, we tell the world we have the right to go bombing nations without evidential excuses!

I would love to see your definition of democracy.
It would either be three words, two of those profane
or it would be 300 pages long and make no sense.
