An even better one than St Johns Wort could be Roseola rosea - also known as Arctic Root, Golden Root or Rose Root. Unlike St Johns Wort, Rodeola is not thought to affect liver enzyme function. St Johns Wort unfortunately can cause drug-herb interactions which means that anyone taking meds has to be careful. It basically increases the enzyme that speeds drugs through the system so you get lower (non-therapeutic) levels of medication in your blood stream. There are no contra-indications with prescribed medicine with Rodeola plus it is supposed to be quicker acting and more potent. It also boosts your memory, sex drive and physical endurance because it is known as an adaptogen - similar to ginseng in that sense.

Best wishes.

I have been told that St. Johns Wort is supposed to be helpful for depression. I was going to start taking it but since I am already on prescribed anti-depressants my Neurologist said I could not take both. I'm pretty sure there are a couple of others. I would recommend going to a health food store, they should have the St. Johns Wort, and they will be able to show you what else ther might be. Good Luck!

I have been suffering from post partum depression for the past one year when I gave birth to a baby boy. I couldn't stop thinking about how my husband loves him more than me and how things might be better if he wasn't born at all. Thus, I stayed away from him because I knew that I might do something I will regret for the rest of my life.

Almost instantly I went to a therapist and convince them that I need help. Among other things, I've tried herbal supplements and other book to treat depression but nothing works like the Depression Free Method. So now I'm proud to say I'm one of the happiest mother in the world. My husband loves us both very much and I thank the Lord for the blessing he gave us.

Depression Free Method?

There are acupuncture treatments and Chinese herbal supplements that a licensed acupuncturist can provide that will help with depression.

Regular exercise, proper diet, and an activity/hobby that you enjoy are all very natural ways to help relieve depression.

Herbal medicine and supplements are medicinal substances, just as prescription medications. They can be dangerous when taken without the proper foreknowledge of their usage. We see it time and time again where people take too much, or too many types of supplements with bad results. You should consult with someone trained in proper use of these medicinals before you start trying to self-medicate.
