I agree with the Creeper. At one time our ancestors needed more hair on their bodies. As we started to cover our bodies with clothes,we no longer needed that much protection. In the future, humans will probably look like those Hairless cats or dogs.EEEk!

I could only guess it was for detection of vibration and the movement of prey when you had a grip on it.
It was for the ancient times before we look like human shape.
