Hi, if you can, get your hands on White Dwarf no. 296 it has the best article on guard tactics ever!

My best tips:

1. One ten man squad per 250 points. + a squad for extra measure. This does not include HQs or special weapons teams. EG 1500 point army 6 squads of ten +extra squad.

2. Use Split deployement: Have a sacrificial and victory group. Protect Victory no matter what. Sacraficial is to tie up enemy in combat, draw fire, delay their movement and create a lot of hoo ha whilst your basalisk and Plasma guns you are going to have in the victory squad slowly destroy your enemy's flanks. Have the groups 18-24 inches apart to avoid consolidation into next group.

3. Ratling Snipers: I recomend you have at least five (only 55 points) in every army you take. You automaticly hit on 2's wound on 4's, mathamaticly if you take five you should cause about 3 armour saves per turn.

4: Army Selection: Tooled up Officers and Leman Russ are great in an army, but remember, if youre only playing a 750point army, your enemy really isnt going to have anything that a basalisk or some autocannons cant take out right? so use your points wisely.

good luck!

hmm guard eh? i fielded a catachan ig. but what i would do myself is lots of troops. the way i played my regular ig was trying to rule the shooting phase. your guys will either get shot down, or chopped up. but shooting is where ig are good. i would definitly get a basalisk or 2. either that or morters. another good thing in ig are their tanks. if you make your guys mechanized, give them chimeras, and you can easily run your troops around and then open fire. but there are many different ways to run your ig. its all about what you think is cool.
