I've been wearing glasses since I was 14 and ever since then every time I lose my glasses I feel happy and relieved but when ever I find them I feel extremely depressed. I would get contacts but I can't afford them right now.
This is mainly coming up because I recently broke my glasses frames so even though I can still wear them they look weird on my face and every one is telling me I look so much better without glasses.

If you're like me you feel bogged down when you wear them. I tend to get a little claustrophobic and wearing my glasses adds stress to my day. I felt the same way you did until I could afford contacts. Your day will come. :) Good luck and God bless!

Perhaps they make you so miserable because the T zone on your face has a lot of nerves close to the surface. They could be hitting a pressure point in just the wrong way. I don't wear mine often, they kill my face and make me cranky.

New glasses cost much more than contacts now. Its $99 for the doctors visit which most insurances cover and $34 per box of contacts. If both eyes are the same strength, you're all set just buy one box at a time. Most places want you to buy a six month supply at a time, but I just tell them I can't afford to do that right now so I get one or two boxes. Some places have a two box minimum to order others don't if they have your strength in stock already. I get back up glasses every 3 years so that once a week when I put my extended wear contacts in the cleaning solution over night, I can still see... my last pair of glasses was almost $400 and I didn't even get designer stuff or the expensive lenses... I just have really crappy eyes!!!!

As a mental health practitioner with 20+ years experience, now retired, I can clearly tell you that your glasses don't make you feel miserable. YOU make yourself feel miserable over your glasses, and the remedy there is very clear. You need to accept the fact that you need corrective lenses, and until you can afford contact lenses, you need to wear glasses. And, as Bungle says, maybe you want to change frame styles maybe, but the big fact is that you simply need to accept the fact that that's the hand life has dealt you for now, and you need to work with it. I guess a comparative issue would be that I would love to drive a Porsche, but, I can't afford one, so, I drive a VW. Now, if I decided to be upset by it all, I could be, but then I'd not only be miserable, but I also couldn't drive the car of my choice: TWO things against my wishes (no Porsche AND feeling miserable) instead of one (no Porsche). AND, since I've been driving for a few decades, and never able to drive a Porsche, I've been able to "come to terms" with the hand life has dealt me, and I've discovered LOTS of reasons why I like a VW more than a Porsche, so now I'm truly a VW man. An irony you might like to hear is that, back in 1980 I bought a VW Rabbit Convertible 5-speed. It was the only convertible on the market at the time since domestic manufacturers were not allowed to make convertibles for safety reasons. So I was really excited when I came home with the ONLY convertible on the road, since the one I bought was the last convertible that particular dealer had. And oh how excited I was! And then, just moments after I got home, I learned that my next door neighbor just put his 1975 Porsche 911 up for sale, for several hundred dollars LESS than I paid for my brand new VW convertible!!! God how I wished I could drive my new convertible back to the dealer and get my money back and buy my neighbor's Porsche, which I could afford!! But, I didn't know that I actually might be able to do that, so, I didn't. Well, I came to love my new VW Rabbit convertible 5-speed, truly. But always in the back of my mind I keep thinking, IF ONLY I had known about that Porsche 911 BEFORE I had bought my VW!! I would have had the "car of my dreams"!! But life dealt me a different hand, so, I've never driven a Porsche 911, my dream car. And what do I own now?? A 2002 VW Jetta TDI, a wonderful diesel car with incredibly great gas mileage, and very low maintenance costs and a great re-sale value. So, did I lose out in not getting that Porsche, or did I just need to see things differently, and realize how grateful I should be for even having a car, and a good one at that. The same is true about your glasses vs. contact lenses. YOU can make YOURSELF miserable, or you can look at things differently. It's YOUR choice! God Bless you.

Don't sweat it sweety! After a while you will be able to get the surgery, as you will be able to afford it. I did, and my glasses were about an inch thick!!! Look on the positive side, you are in the fashion trend, it makes you look intelligent, and you have a boyfriend. You will be just fine. And remember, real people will judge whats inside, not whats on the outside. Good Luck honey, and don't worry about it. Remember, its the heart that counts.

I'm guessing you're near-sighted, right?
Your eyes have a natural focus at an arm's length- the muscles can relax and see fine at this distance. With eyeglasses, you can see far away, but when you try to focus on something close, your eyes must strain. When you have your eyes dialated, you cannot see up close with your glasses! I get headaches when I read with my glasses on.

Better to just keep them in your pocket for reading at a distance.

That's funny because when I was younger I didn't like glasses now that I do like them I got the chance of wearing them when my eyes went bad. The only bad thing I don't like about this is that my eyes hurt now and then especially when I force them to see.

Change your style of frames some people wear glasses just because they look good in them. Get some cool designer frames.
If you are wearing Harry Potter frames then no wonder you are depressed.
