80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

I have Kandinsky poster in my room (Green, Red, Blue) and my friend looked at it and saw a rabbit. I had never seen a rabbit before, I had always seen a face. Everyone who answers your question sees sometime a little different, but we are all looking at the same canvas. In that respect I think that your immediate goal would be to expose yourself to as many different perspectives as you can and in the process improve your own perspective on life. You can pick and choose from the lives of others what you want to incorporate in your own life--what you think would give you the greatest 'contentment' (I used contentment in the broadest sense of the word). So, you make up your own meaning...deceive yourself if you have to, human life, after all, at its deepest level is a propaganda war

i am too young to give a meaning to life. just 25, and i've got a long way to go. so many shores to reach and tides to swim against in this life. perhaps, after another 25 years down the line i will come to a position to give a meaning to this life. if i tell you the meaning then it will be based on very vaguely drawn conclusions and superfecial experiences.

one thing i know, "the goal of life is death"...."to dust thou shalt return"!!

There is no meaning. We live, we die, and still...the world turns and the life cycle goes on. We are a bunch of nothing wondering this earth trying to find something that does not exist.

Life – it has a meaning and loving purpose - you just have to find your purpose and live it.

I believe every person is here for a definite purpose. Each person is special and valuable; that refers to me, you, your family, friends, in fact everybody! There is a loving plan for each of our lives here on earth and there is no such thing as coincidence. I don't believe that anything in life happens by chance and that every aspect of our lives points to something deeper.

You need to decide now to live for God rather than for yourself. You spend your life on Earth preparing yourself (as best you can) for death. I don't see death as a scary, negative experience, but birth into a bliss filled eternal life with God. I believe that this is something you have to consciously choose or not during your life on earth.

The meaning of life is for us to discover that we are true children of an infinitely loving and merciful God, to find out what our responsibilities are to our Creator, and to fulfill those responsibilities. Each of us is called to affirm, accept and develop the talents God has given us. -

I'm afraid that this is one of those "big questions" that take a lifetime to answer. And perhaps that is the secret: that at each stage of our lives, it changes.

When I was a child, it was to bask in the wonderment of discovery. When I was a teen, it was to discover who I truly was. When I was a young woman, it was to have a husband and raise a family. Now that my children have grown, it is once again to bask in the wonderment of discovery, but on a deeper level.

The meaning of Life--is to love the One who loved us first. It is so much more fun to be alive, then dead, thank you. Thank you for asking. Thank you for that smile. Thank you for the bird's song and my daughter's whistling and for the Colorado sunsets and for the elders wisdom. Thank YOU for the warning about our numbered days on this globe, by seeing that we WILL all die someday and for the promise of a glorious day to come, after wards. Thank YOU for sending YOUR SON to show us how to reach our promised seat next to YOU. Learn to love ,really love, one another. We are in this together.
