It depends what you call "elderly". But if you use the definition in relation to people who are retired and are in the later years of their life, you will be suprised how many are using a computer to keep in touch with family members using chat clients and email, as well as browsing the net.

Am 68 yrs old, my first comput er was a TI 99, second was a Radio Shack Model 1 with 64 K memory, have been using a puter for approx 30 yrs..........I would think before you were born.
Would think I have had more computers than you've had cars.

Thank you very much

Elderly using computer will depend on their capability, some are very capable and some are quite slow, that depend on their educational stream, if they're in English education stream, the
follow up will be faster and for those who are non- English stream, the follow up will be slower, especially for those who are in the age of 55 onward, the catch up ability will be slack down.
But on constant practise will make them perfect.

Not very well mostly. If you are 60 to 70 you have a fighting chance. Most over that are clueless. Under 60's doing good. there are exceptions of course. There are some 38 year olds that are clueless and some 90 year olds that are doing pretty good considering their age.
