Yes, I think it is an aquired habit and is used by the mentally lazy. There's no way the genes necessary to produce the level of stupidity commonly encountered could be passed on for it to be strickly genetic.

Yes. More likely it is hereditary too. Stupid parents can't very well teach smarts to their kid, therefore it can, in a way, be "taught". Don't know of anyone with really stupid parents who grew up to be a rocket scientist.
