I'm a huge U2 fan and I love "Zooropa." It's entirely different than anything else on the U2 catalogue. It was spacy, trippy and yet musical at the same time. What amazes me about the album is that it was not only recorded in 10 weeks time, but also that it was recorded while the band were still on tour. They would literally end a show at 11 pm, fly back to Dublin and stay up until the wee hours of the morning recording and mixing each track. The end result were ten very good tracks that really captured the band at their most experimental period. "Stay," "Numb," "Lemon"... these were very different songs for the band and it took a lot of guts to let these songs get released. It really was an opportunity for the band to shed all of their skin and reinvent themselves... even if it meant the album would not be one of it's more commercially or critically successful ventures.

Also, I have found that "Zooropa" is the one album most U2 nay-sayers prefer. Many friends of mine who never liked the band have shown a lot of respect for that album. But it's not so much underrated as it is unknown. It's just not one of their more popular releases.

Actually as far as U2 and albums go I think it's more overproduced than underrated. Contrary to the typical "naysayers" here on Yahoo answers, U2 is one of the most talented artists of the late 20th early 21st century. Zooropa was okay but came across as more of a bad remix of Achtung Baby if you ask me.

It's the only U2 CD I can listen all the way through. They were so much better when they made music nobody liked...
