I was just wondering in which ward of Tokyo would you live? (I'm moving there soon and hope to be working at Microsoft, which I think is in either the Shibuya or Shinjuku ward. And if I live in Shibuya, about how long of a commute would it be to Shinjuku?) Thanks.

Sorry, I guess I kind of made my question on the wrong thing. The title says Kyoto but the question has nothing to do with it. Sorry! ^_^

Personally, Shibuya is better to live than Shinjuku.
BTW
How much can you pay for rent?
If you live in a flat which has 2 bedroom and 70 m² in Shinjuku or Shibuya area, it takes about JPY200,000-/month for rent.
I recommend to consider.
(Kyoto is much cheaper than Tokyo.)
If Microsoft pay for your rent, let me know. I will apply Microsoft.

If you're going to live in Shibuya the commute to Shinjuku will be simple as pie. Because there are only 2 other stations in between Shibuya and Shinjuku.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Yamanote.png
Shibuya-Harajuku-Yoyogi-Shinjuku.
This will only take like 15 mins. The Yamanote Line stops quite frequently and the time between the stops will vary but it's usually no more than 3 - 6 minutes between each station.
Biking would be a great way to commute between these stations or if you want, buy a moped.
The problem with living in Shibuya is it's expensive and crowded.
Lots of people during the day and even more during the evening.
The best thing about living in Shibuya would be obviously all the entertainment and night life you've got at the tip of your fingers 365/24/7.
Other nice areas that's close by the night life but also quiet and cozy would be Jiyugaoka on the Tokyu Toyoko Line, JR Harajuku station area, JR Kichijoji station area (Good access to Shibuya AND shinjuku), and Shimokitazawa on the Odakyu Line.
Hope you enjoy Tokyo if you decide to go! You'll have an awesome time if you live in the city. It maybe exhausting but fun!

I used to work in Shinjuku a few years back.
I lived in Nerimu-ku in a place called Kamishakuji and travelled by private train line used to take 10minutes for a fast train with not many people and it's a really good area to live in. Shibuya is a good place too but it's by subway and usually more people on that- if you like lots of pushing and crowds than that's cool. Maybe look up on a website to find closest and best city to live.
Hope this helps :) Good luck with it all.

I live in Toshima-ku, Ikebukuro to be exact.
Shibuya to Shinjuku on the Yamanote, it's only 3 stops. On the Saiko Line it's only 1 stop. Saikyo line doesn't run as often as the Yamanote and the line is a little further south than yamanote line at the stations so it depends on which exits are more convenient to your home and work place. The Fare should only 150 Yen or even 130 Yen.
You could also probably ride a bike between the two and get some good exercise in the process.

The commute from Shibuya to Shinjuku shouldn't be more than 30 minutes, althought you will have to bare the rush hour on the trains.

Microsoft's Japanese headquarters is in Shinjuku, but it doesn't affect your commute much if you live in Shibuya or Shinjuku; as the two stations are only ten minutes apart by JR line. Shibuya is more fashionable and every gaijin in Tokyo gravitates towards there eventually, but Shinjuku is cheaper (as far as Tokyo goes, anyway).

often, bottled water is a rip-off. that's continuously an same component that comes out of the tap, and that's undesirable for our surroundings because of each and every of the non-decomposable plastic bottles. notwithstanding... I went to Tochigi at the same time as i become there, that is a perfecture about 3 hours north of Tokyo. The water in Tokyo is crystal sparkling, notwithstanding the water in Tochigi (that's really usa), become white at the same time as it got here out of the tap. the jap position various importance on the known of their civil structures, so when you're in a city like Kyoto or (surprisingly) Tokyo, i'm effective you'd be very well.
