From what I know, Campbells Russian Dwarf hamsters are more nippy than any of the other species. There are five hamster species commonly kept as pets: Syrian, Campbell Russian Dwarf, Winter White Russian Dwarf, Roborovski Dwarf and Chinese.

I own and have owned over 100 Syrian hamsters at any given time over the last few years. I have only been bitten four times. My animals are selectively breed for several things, with temperament being one of them. I can't guaruntee that if you get a Syrian you won't get bit but I suggest you purchase one from a breeder.

I have just acquired pairs of each of the other hamster species over the last two weeks. None of them have bitten me though I have gotten several nibbles from the Campbells. From what I understand from other breeders, Campbells are more likely to bite than the other species.

I think that the bigger the hamster, the less they bite. When you go to pick out your hamster at the pet store, spend some time looking at all of them and watching their behaviors. The more relaxed and subdued they are, the better. Ask the store clerk to let you hand a couple that you think you might like. You should know right away if the hamster is right for you. You want to make sure that they are very jumpy and have shiny black eyes with no clouding. It really pays off to make sure that you find the right hamster. Even if you go to a couple of stores, you will be happier in the end.

They all have the potential to bite. I have a drawf hamster and he bites my roommate only because she doesn't play with him or take him out or feed him. He never bites me. If you want a hamster, any kind will do. If you prefer a small hamster, i recommend a dwarf hamster. As long as you love and take care of your hamster, he/she won't bite you. THOUGH, if you try to pick him/her up with he/she is sleeping, then you might get bitten. I just wait until my little boy looks like he wants to come out, then I gently scoop him up, play with him, then put him in his ball to exercise! Just love your hamster and it shouldn't bite!

Any hamster will bite. Mainly I've found with most hamsters if you handle them a regular basis, they won't bite. If you never interact with a hamster, it will tend to be more likely to bite. I try and get our hamsters out at least once a day to make sure they stay used to us.

All hamsters can bite , it doesn't matter on breed. Hamsters bite when they are scared, irritated, and if they smell food on you.
