There's really not much difference. I have a docking station and external LCD, keyboard, and mouse for the Thinkpad T60 I use at work. So it's like a Desktop. When I go places I have the convenience of mobility.
Really the only cons of a notebook are:
1. Upgrades are limited to pretty much just RAM
2. Cost
3. Possibly screen size
You can make a notebook into a Desktop if you spend the money.
I have the following:
Thinkpad T60 2623-DAU w/ 2GB RAM
Port Replicator with integrated Docking
Logitech mouse
Logitech Keyboard
Viewsonic VX922 19" LCD
I also have a Desktop in my office and at home. If i had a choice I'd take the notebook.

Go with a laptop..
Same thing as a desktop just smaller and mobility enabled. Although you will find that it can cost more. Consider other factors as well. If I was to buy a gaming computer, it would be a desktop. If I was to buy a computer I would use while I am on vacation, I would buy a laptop. Think of laptops as mini-desktops. -Also don't be limited with that touchmouse or small keyboard. You can buy wireless/bluetooth keyboards and mice that plug right in to your USB port.

This really comes down to what you will use it for, so i will list benifits and maybe why you will buy it.
Desktop:
-More Powerful
-Made More For Home Use & Gaming
-Much More Room For Upgrade
-Much More Hardware Upgrade options.
-Ussally Bigger HD, any many more drive capabilities
Laptop
-Mobile Agile (HEHEH Remeber the titans)
-Less power consuption
-Less Drives
-Less Hardware Upgrade Options
-Ussally Integrated Video
-Ussally not made for Gaming
-Made fore travle and bussiness, Home Use
However if you come down to a normal user I would suggest Laptop's if you can afford a laptop like this.
Windows XP Media Center
Core 2 Duo Proccessor
2048MB (2GB) of Ram
120GB Hardrive
CD-R/RW-DVD-R/RW Light Scribe Drive
Integrated Wireless
If you want a Desktop I suggest this
Windows XP Media Center
Core 2 Duo Extreme Proccessor
2048MB Ram (2GB)
250GB HD
Take out the Video Card and buy a 7950 GT Card
CD-R/RW-DVD Drive
CD-R/RW-DVD-R/RW Drive
Card Reader Drive
These thing i have listed are normal everyday store bought computers, this is why I suggested switching the Video Card.
THer eyou GO

That really depends on what you will use it for. if you like the mobility and laptops has suited your needs stay with a laptop, If you dont need to ever take it any where then you can get better prices on basic desktop or tower computers, dell always has good deals on personal computer systems, $399-499 complete with printer. So consider your need, price or portability...

You should get a regular computer because it's way more powerful and has way more memory than a laptop. I recomend because this is what my entire famiy does, is make your own computer with the parts you want. Just go to Micro Center and get all of your parts there. Making your own saves you LOTS of money. With $500 worth of parts you can build a computer that you would have to spend $2000 for.

buy an Apple Macbook. I got one for xmas and I love it.
I know theyre expensive but they are more than worth it. If not the Macbook, get the desktop iMac. Its cheaper but just as great.
Mac's are the greatest

Well desk tops are big and bulky but laptops have radiation that can do something to prevent you from having children. So I guess it's up to you. Good Luck!
