You're in a tough situation. But there is a chance you can get fired or your manager places the blame on you for the account discrepancies. If there is someone higher than your manager you should contact them immediately. Let them know your concerns and that you need them to be discreet so that he cannot seek retaliation against you because you're the sole bread winner for your family. Either way it seems like you have a double edged sword because he will continue to steal money because he has a gambling addiction. If you're blamed you could face jail time and leave your family in an awful situation. Trust your gut and let someone know. Best thing..he's fired immediately and you keep your job. But have a plan B just in case.

Yes, there's not much cash left in pot I'm afraid the bankers have had it all, and not only the NHS but many in local gov as well and they will probably be big cuts too, no-matter who wins the next GE. The problem is, there will be no jobs for the people who get made redundant, except for minimum wage agency jobs that is, if you can call them jobs, but them again our Gordon does, so you'll be alright, as long as your not one of those lazy buggers who don't want work and don't mind running around like a blue-@rsed-fly for about six quid an hour that is. For many this is a looming reality, so hold on tight boys and girls its gonna get a little bit tough out there. I think Some chickens are about to come home to roost.

This is a case of Power, just like the movie "Disclosure". It's improper dismissal if he tries. You are in a catch 22 but you don't want him to control you. You actually has the upper hand because he can't fire you because you will spill the beans and he will get fire. He might try to bring you down by saying you are in on it. So, hire a good lawyer for advise and at least you have a statement. Good luck bud!

What this guy is doing is totally illegal. When he gets caught (and he will) and it was found that you knew about this then you get dragged down right along with him. It will look like you aided and abetted him. You need to immediately go to the higher ups and tell them what has been going on. Tell them everything (especially his malicious intent by misusing his authority to threaten your job) because it's going to come out anyway and you don't want it to look like you were in on it. This manager is running scared and he is trying to coerce your silence. Something like this doesn't get smaller, rather it spreads like an infectious disease until all hell breaks loose. Look at the news lately? Your worrying about losing your job over this is unfounded. Your chance of having a job by staying silent is great. So get the monkey off your back. You didn't do anything wrong; he did! So cooperate with your employers and trust them to take appropriate measures in dealing with this dilemma.

Seem you have no choice as long as you have your facts straight other wise it could back fire on you And how well does he know your MD , This is a very serious issue. . I would make sure in concrete, before i took any action . maybe the company could get hold of the phone conversation ( Big brother is always watching and you can obtain any information these days . See if your MD can find out if the phone conversations in the company is recorded .
Good Luck

Although its scary, if you dont tell a higher up, that could put you in a worse situation because you can get in trouble for being aware of inside theft and not letting a mgr know. If anything happens you can always take it to the news, thats bad publicity for the business and you can take them to court. But really, you'll probably be praised by the higher ups for saving them additional losses. I worked in retail and had to turn in a friend for stealing, you'll be ok. just tell a higher up- preferably corporate
