I'm not sure what instrument I should play. I really like how the violin sounds. It has so much emotion in it and a note can be held for a long time, but then I heard how a violin solo sounds and I'm not too sure anymore. Maybe the player was just really bad. When I hear someone play the violin by themselves, it always sounds different from another person who played that same song, but the piano always sounds the same.

I love the violin, but does it sound bad without an orchestra and just ONE violin? I really like the piano too and I think it would be much easier to learn. There are a lot of songs I love on the piano.

Also, does playing the violin ruin your hands? I'm an artist and that concerns me. Please let me know. Thanks!

I don't worry about not being able to sing. Hahaha I can't sing at all anyways!

By the way, I'm 14 and I was wondering if it's too late to learn either instrument.

I like slow songs, not fast jazzy kind of songs. I really like Final fantasy songs. Such as:

Suteki Da Ne (violin)-

I dont think that the violin will ruin your hands at all. I took lessons for 3 years and it never affected mine. With the violin it does take a lot of practice to get the right tone (its all the pressure you put on the strings with your fingers and the bow) however it is really enjoyable to play and can sound beautiful. I also play the piano and love it. Its great to start out on because you can learn to read the music without worrying too much about technique, and once you master the piano its really easy to teach yourself to play other insturments such as the violin.

I've always wanted to learn both, but I think i would love to play the violin. don't get me wrong the piano is great but i really love the way the violin sounds, so emotional. Somebody wasn't doing that solo right. The violin.

Violin is much harder to get good enough on that you could do a solo. Only the very best players can play a solo and make it sound really good.

Violin will not ruin your hands, though it may hurt your fingers for a while until you get used to pressing on the strings. But it only hurts while pressing--no permanent harm, shouldn't affect your art at all.

Hmmm... no the violin doesn't ruin your hands... i'm a semi-artist too...

but truthfully... if i didn't start the violin first.. i would have played the piano b/c it has intonation down all you have is rhythm, style, and tone. And you will, if you decide to play the violin later, have a better understanding of the violin and different styles...

I prefer the piano simply because you can sing along with it when you play. That's kind of hard to do with a violin. I've personally never heard of anyone's handse being ruined by either instrument.

Someone told me that if you learn piano, you can learn everything else pretty easy. The Piano is a good place to start! Personally I had a hard time doing two separate things with each hand!... The piano is more complete.

Ask yourself. Do I want to play like this: http://www.jazz-on-line.com/ram/VIC49759-1.ram

i play piano and its so amazing what songs you can play on the piano and how it flows if you play it right.
and its easy. plus, violins seem so complicated. ive tried the violin, and i was confused on how to play it. ha.
maybe it just depends on how well you work with your hands.
