Can you crush a vitamin and put it in a hot drink, like hot chocolate, and maintain the same effectiveness ? Will it lose it's proper absorption if you do this ? I have a really hard time swallowing any large pills and wouldn't have bought this large bottle of vitamins if I had known how big they were. Next time, I will buy chewables or liquid vitamins but don't want to waste what I have already bought. Thanks to anyone who may have a clue.

You can crush them as long as they are not a timed release,or do not contain a component that is time released. Most nurses crush pills and stir them into applesauce and then have the patient chase them with some water.Centrum does have a fairly pleasant tasting liquid vitamin that you can find at Walmart.Heat is NOT a good combo for your vitamins.Heat destroys the potency of the vitamins or any medication.
Maybe in chocolate milk in the blender? For my son I would cut them in half until he got used to swallowing the larger pill.Coating the vitamin with jam sometimes works too.Hope this helps.

If you're going to smash one up, put it in water--or jelly. Not in anything hot.

If they are capsules, you can dump the contents of the capsule into water and drink it. Discard the empty capsule.

You can see if a family member wants to buy these vitamins from you, so that you can go get chewables.

If you have only taken a couple--you can bring them back to the store where you bought them--tell them you cannot swallow them--and tell them you want to make an exchange. Most stores will do this, and write the open item up as damaged, etc.

Vitamins work best with a full glass of water or a cup of a citrus type juice. Crushing it is fine though.

I wouldn't advise smashing them. it does mess with the absorption of some pills. Try cutting it in half and taking it that way.

Nursing homes crush multivitamins constantly and give them to residents in applesauce, which is much easier for them to swallow. I wouldn't mix them in anything hot because they will dissolve and it may change their chemical structure before you are able to absorb them. Crushing them is not an issue.

Anytime you crush up a vitamin, it is no longer effective. In fact it can kill you instantly. Hope this helped. Have a nice day
