How do I check and see what kind of motherboard and what model am I using?

I just reformatted my computer and I'm not getting any sounds. I get a yellow error sign in device manager next to the C-Media AC97 Audio device. I've tried everything from updating from microsoft to using the K lite codec. No luck. What could be the problem. I dont have the motherboard disc.

Try Start,All Program,Acessories,System tools,System Information. Look in the righthand pane for the Bios version/date and you will know the motherboard vendor and model. If not, there are other softwares on the net that can tell you but i can't think of one right now except for one program i have, Sysoftware Sandra Pro XI. After getting the motherboard vendor and modelumber you can head over their website and download the driver for the audio chip.

Best option, physically open the machine, get the numbers off the chips, generally you can get the manufacturer of the chips from this. Then there are plenty of driver sites, some paying, some not, most have pictures and layouts that you can visually identify the board. From there you can chooses to download the individual drivers.. - Good Luck.

Option 2 - (easier) Run dr. watson, or check system information to see if the board manuf. is listed there.

I did a quick search on yahoo for the c-media ac97 drivers, and many many sites came up, im assuming it is a AMD 64 bit board of some type, integrated audio.?...Check the site below.
