In Dragon Quest VIII, how do I fight in the Monster Arena?

When I go to the Monster Arena, I talk to everyone but am not given a prompt to have my team fight. I've already assembled a team, and Morrie has said that he'll pay my entrance fee, but I can't fight in the tournaments. What in the hell am I supposed to do?

You talk to the guy on the roof of the monster arena, and he will give you papers that list certain enemies to defeat and recruit. Once you've done so, simply return to him and he'll let you in. Once inside, simply go down the stairs and talk to a waiter-dressed guy beside the fighting area.
