I was just wondering how many people out there are working under stressful conditions. I work in a middle school and everyone at my job is totally depressed and stressed due to administrative pressure and a total lack of respect on the part of the majority of students. Admittedly, some of the staff is "burned out" and need to retire. But others are working hard, arriving early, staying late, buying their own materials, trying everything they can to get the job done. But it seems to be an uphill battle all of the time. I was just wondering how "life" is at other job sites. Is high-level stress" a common thread? Please share your situation. More importantly, if you can share any ideas you have on how to relieve some of the stress and pressure, please do so. Thanks a lot.

Not quite as stressful as you describe at your school, I also work in a school setting. I'm with elementary teachers, and it's a pretty happy place, most of the time. It has been stressful lately because of cold weather, and the children not being able to go out for recess. 5th grade boys need to run around outside or they get a little crazy after a couple of weeks!

I think for the most part, relieving the stress comes from friendship and good working relationships amongst the teachers. The building principal is key in bringing about this feeling of respect among the staff. Even if the kids are hyper and parents are overbearing, just knowing that you are not in it alone helps tremendously.

This is a loaded question because it depends on where you work and what position you hold. I've worked in offices where "stress" was nothing but imaginary, for most of the staff, because if you didn't say you were stressed out the boss would start looking for work for you to do. But if you huffed around talking about how stressed you were you could spend the day doing nothing but drinking coffee while those that dealt with stress realistically ended up with the nervous breakdowns because of the work load. The world is not fair and it won't get any better.

yes, high stress at my place of employment also... I think due to negativity.. first one person starts, then it spreads to everyone... then turns into the habitual way of interacting... that is what i believe happened where I work... it's so bad that I can feel it as soon as I walk in.... needless to say, I'm looking for a different job... just not worth it
