Tillamook; close to the Oregon coastline is a family-oriented town too.
Not too large, only about 4500 people.
But it is large enough to have all the facilities a young family needs.
It is farming (dairy) country so the people are hard-working and retain that country-friendliness about them.

Tillamook derives a lot of income from tourism.
There is a large cheese factory there (open to the public).
Lumber is another industry that supports the community.

If you'd like to have a look around Tillamook, I have included the Chamber of Commerce website link for you:
http://www.tillamookchamber.org/

The site is quite good.
With information on community services like schools, hospitals, churches, restaurants, attractions, maps etc.

Grants Pass, Oregon- slightly north of Medford is very family oriented. And the housing market is reasonable.
