My colleague has put up a website for our company and he wants me to go through it just to edit all of the grammar, spelling, information etc. He gave me all of the login information (username & password) and I can get in, the problem is I don't know how to edit the website! I know a bit about FTP and stuff..but is there a way I can just go onto the website and just EDIT it? The host is ixwebhosting.com... thanks!!

I use IX webhosting and you can do what you want in two ways.
#1) If you know how to use FTP (I recommend ALTOOLS.NET and their free FTP program, ALFTP) then configure the FTP program to access the website. The ftp name for the website will be: ftp.thedomainname.com (replace "thedomainname" with the real url of the website.)
a) Test the connection.
b) Download the webpage (you will see all of the webpages in the FTP program.)
c) Make your changes then save the file on your own hard drive. Be sure to remember the folder you saved it in. The simplest way is to make a folder with the domain name on your desktop where you can find it easily.
d) Once saved, upload the changed file back to the webhost in the same place that you found it.
e) To verify that your changes were uploaded properly. Go to your web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.) and go to the webpage that you changed. BE SURE TO REFRESH THE PAGE!!! After refreshing, you should be able to see your changes.
#2) Edit directly on IXWEBHOST
a) Login to the account and under the "Hosting Products" section, select the Hosting Plan image ( a box with Linux or Windows on it)
b) A new page will open. This is the control panel. Select FTP Manager (it is the third option down)
c) On the next page select "Webshell (Htprotect)". This will open another web page.
d) On the newly opened webpage, you will see the domain name on the left. Click on this domain name.
e) From here you will see the list of web pages (files) that are stored under the domain name.
f) Select the page you want to edit by clicking on the file name, this will put the file information in the box on the right called "View File Details"
g) At the bottom of this box, you will see a button labeled "edit". Select this button and an editing box will appear (a popup window). This is where you will find the raw html code.
h) Make your changes right there in the code and be sure to save. Then go to step (e) in the FIRST method to verify your changes.
That's it.

Ideally you'd use web editing software (such as Dreamweaver). With the URL and the username and password you can connect to the site, download the files onto your disk, edit them as they appear online (rather than digging through HTML code), then upload the fixed html. If the site is set up with Front Page extensions (that is, if it was initially created in Front Page) then you can edit it online (if you have Front Page) without actually having the files on your own computer. The Login Settings link on the hosting service's web page should help you with configuring the web editing software.
If you just want to download it as html and edit it while trying not to mess up the tags, open the site in your browser, view the Page Source, and save it as a text file on your disk. Edit it, then rename it to an html file and upload it again. This is assuming you have the FTP set up.
Or finally, ask your colleague if you could edit it on his machine (if he created it, he's got some sort of editing setup), or if he could configure yours so you could do the work. Just because you can spell better than he can doesn't mean you necessarily understand the technical aspects.

okay well most website hosters let you go and do a visual editor for those less knowing html or ftp users. If you want to create a website for your company you might wanna learn how to do it. But for the time being see if they web hoster lets you do a visual editor. If not think about switching hosters or something. bravenet webhosting for example has done wonders for my website.
