I leave my heat around 70 and it automatically kicks on and off which I guess is not a problem. But when the heat kicks on, it rumbles very loudly. So loud I can hear it upstairs on the 2nd floor of the house and the heater is in the basement. What could be causing this noise and is it normal. We just bought his house in July and had it inspected.

It is a gas heater. No we have not bled the radiators since we've been here and have no clue when the last time they were beld.We only hear the noise when the heater starts up. When it shuts off, it is as silent as a mouse.

Your radiators have to be bled. They should have to be bled every heating season for good maintenance. The rumbling is trapped air in the lines.

machines kicking in and makes noises when switching on or off is normal.however if the noise is that loud, have the inspector check it again, it may just need adjusting, the heat works is all that matters. the inspection or repair or adjustment, should be covered under the house warranty. hope that helps

is it forced air or hot water?
it could be air in the lines if its water bleed the radiators or it could just be the air rising through the vents in an air system

You don't mention if this doing it all the time or on start up. If it does it all the time, check your fan blower, you may something in it. If you don't find anything in the blower, you should contact your local heating contractor.

You need to drain the system, you probably have a lot of sediment in the tank.
