Does Hershey's make Valentine Kisses?
I'd take a nice box full of Kisses and walk up to people and say would you like a Kiss? Smile and offer the container.
It'll start up conversations and make people smile and open things up for humorous remarks. Based on those reactions you can see who you would want to continue conversations with later.

Don't know where you are but I work in New York and people tend to be very friendly. They are usually especially friendly to a new employee. Maybe it's the fresh meat thing?
Anyway find somebody interesting looking and great them with a smile. "Are you a porgrammer?' "Is this the accounting department""Do you know if we have a softball team?"

Just introduce yourself to new people you haven't met and say Hi. The rest will follow and be nice. Always listen to the people first and feel them out so you know what the are about and then you can see who you will be comfortable with.

like, if there is a coffee room or something, go in there and just hang out. If you hear a conversation that you can relate to, then say something. just gradually meet people.
like help them, open a door for them. Simple stuff like that.

Bake some yummy goodies and pass them around. Sure fire way to make friends... Don't bake?? No worries... Pick up some cookies, brownies or cinnamon rolls from a good bakery.
