I don't care for their fashion tastes or slitting of the wrists, but what's wrong with being emotional? James Dean was emotional. Janis Joplin was emotional. Elliott Smith has been my favorite artists for years, and he sings about depression and loneliness even suicide. Some of my favorite bands are classified as alternative-emo like At the Drive-In, Sunny Day Real Estate, My Chemical Romance (albeit they are acquired tastes).

i completely agree. i'm not on the verge of suicide and i don't cry in the corner of a dark room every night. i don't care for guys in tight pants who are skinnier than kate moss, either, but i do love emo music. and what's wrong with that? all my friends bring their own music to listen to in my car cause they know they'll probably find something like the red jumpsuit apparatus or dashboard or coheed in my cd player. acquired tastes, sure, i 'll agree with you there, but why has emo gotten such a bad rap? thanks for posting this, it makes me feel like i'm not completely off-base :)
