We all earn points but, what the heck are you supposed to use them for? Can you get like prizes or something. Only answer if you know for sure and prove it by putting the address of the page you found the info on in the source box. I will be checking.

they are basically for fun, but i was able to get a hat for attaining my level in answers.

Also, in December 06 prizes were given out to celebrate Yahoo! Answer's first birthday-you had to be level 2 or higher (i think that's 1000 points), prizes included:
a sticker
a magnet
a hat
a fleece
and 2 more i'm not sure of
what you got depended on your level....personally i got a nice refrigerator magnet
i'm not sure if they plan to do another giveaway or not (also on level 2 or higher you can download the answers swag [ask answer discover] as a desktop background)

They cannot be redeemed for anything. Getting enough just causes you to "raise your level," which simply gives you more options on yahoo answers.
