Perhaps one of the reasons that you were told he would use you and leave you as soon as he can is the thinking that he may use you to get a Green Card or permanent residency if he is not a citizen already.
(I am assuming that you are in the United States.) Many immigrants do that, and marry someone just to obtain legal residency.
My husband and I went through similar circumstances, because he is Iranian. Although we didn't marry for that reason, we had to go through many of the same biased comments and slurs, because people assumed wrongly that he only married me to get his Green Card.
I had people ask me how I could "stoop so low" as to marry an Arab, even though he was Iranian! "They are all the same" was the reply!! How stupid and misinformed, which is obviously a big trait of the bigoted!
Middle Eastern cultures do have bad reputations as being behind the times in women's rights, and in civil rights, and it is hard for Western cultures to understand cultures other than their own.
It's sad, but not likely to change any time soon.

I'm thinking this all started after 9-11 with the Arabs. Most people started stereotyping by thinking that all Arabs were Islamic extremists when in fact not all Muslims are extremists, not all Arabs are Muslim and not all Muslims are Arabs. When things like this happen, people seem to throw common sense and acceptance out the window to give way to fear and paranoia. It happens all over the world though, not just here in the US.

Its unfortunate that ine person is tarred with the sins of the majority and throughout history.
Arabs were slave traders, they sold black women children and anyone they could into slavery for money.
Arabs were pirates who robbed sunk and plundered
Arabs thieved from their own and believed that all property was common, especially if they were poor and the other was rich.
They have treated women as second class citizens, stoned them to death if they rejected the man chosen to be their husband. They murdered their woman if sahe failed to produce a son. They take more than one wife in some regions still and it is not against the law.
It is easy for an Arab to divorce his wife than a wife to divorce her husband.
They have been considered bandits, thieves, muderers, liars, cheats throughout history and by all races who have ever dealt with them.
They are also Iraquis, Iranians, Afgahani's Egyptians, Syrians Lebanese and at the moment all of these countries are killing each other for power in the name of their God.
So once you have that to cosnsider then you will see why no one trusts an Arab.
Yours may be be an exception to the stereotype but who really knows.. I would trust their women more than I would trust their men

Recently I went to an Arab dentist and he was the best I ever had. He was very soothing to someone who was afraid of dental work. Why on earth would anyone not like them?

It's nice that you love him. But have you learned about his religion?
It has a few principles that he may want to carry out on you:
Death for apostasy:
Quran Sura 4:89: "They but wish that ye should reject Faith, as they do, and thus be on the same footing (as they): But take not friends from their ranks until they flee in the way of Allah (From what is forbidden). But if they turn renegades, seize them and slay them wherever ye find them; and (in any case) take no friends or helpers from their ranks.”
Kill Disbelievers in a cruel fashion:
Quran Sura 5:33: "The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His messenger and strive to make mischief in the land is that they should be murdered or crucified or their hands and their feet should be cut off on opposite sides or they should be imprisoned; this shall be as a disgrace for them in this world, and in the hereafter they will have an awful doom."
Slit throats of unbelievers:
Quran Sura 47:4:
Now when ye meet in battle those who disbelieve, smite at their necks; until when you have overcome them, bind a bond firmly (on them): thereafter (is the time for) either generosity or ransom: Until the war lays down its burdens. Thus (are ye commanded): but if it had been Allah's Will, He could certainly have exacted retribution from them (Himself); but (He lets you fight) in order to test you, some with others. But those who are slain in the Way of Allah,- He will never let their deeds be lost.

It's not that people don't like the arabs. It's the way they treat their own women. Just make sure you stay here in the U.S.A and you won't have that much to worry about. They can be abusive, but so can any race of abusive men.
