I think so...dont get me wrong ..I like them I just dont understand why some people want to put U2 on the same level of say the Beatles or the Stones or Queen when frankly they are very good but even Oasis has better songs and i can mention at least another 10 bands better than U2

What do you think?

The guys who put down Oasis really dont know what you are talking about...here we have the facts:

1.-Who sells more? No doubt U2 but the fact that you sell more doesnt mean you are any better...just look at Britney Spears or the Back Street Boys...besides you cant really compare as U2´s first album was released in 1980 and Oasis first album was released until 1994....

2.-For over 30 years a poll was made by the BBC a simple question: Who is the greatest british band of all time?..for over 30 years the answer was "The Beatles" even in 1994 25 years after their break up..in 1996 however the same question was made and it had a different answer now: it was OASIS...I am a fan of both bands and I find this such an exageration (and i am defending Oasis dont forget that) but this tells us the impact that Oasis made on the music scene...

3.-On the November 2006 issue of Q Magazine, celebrating the magazine's 20th anniversary, U2 frontman Bono recognized "Live Forever" as one of six songs that he wished he had written from the last 20 years of music. if you dont believe see by yourself: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_Forever

3.-They won him acclaim from critics and peers, such as Sir George Martin, producer for The Beatles, who stated "I consider Noel Gallagher to be the finest songwriter of his generation"...i mean this man is 82 years old and more than 50 as producer..if someone knows about music is him..again dont believe: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noel_Gallagher

4.- Peolple who say they only have 2 good songs..I laugh i can only say you dont know their catalogue: i mean really if you dont know it you dont know what you have been missing:Live Forever,Rock and Roll Star,Whatever,Talk Tonight,The Masterplan,Half the World away,Slide Away...and many many more which are much more better than anything by U2

5.-The fact that you win a Grammy doesnt tell anything...The Beatles is better than any other group and they won only one (as a group) because at the time their music was considered very agressive and weird...c´mon I cant believe that you defend awards

6.-As a vocalist Liam Gallagher is much more original than Bono..Bono sings OK but his voice sounds as many others and Liam is instantaneously recognizable

7.-On 27 August 2006, Live Forever was named the Greatest Song of all time in music history, in a poll released by Q Magazine...

8.- I saw U2 9 years ago and I saw Oasis 3 times already and let me tell you that I prefer Oasis 100% more ...Oasis is all about music U2 is about showmanship....in that yeah U2 is better than U2

3.-Definetly Maybe (Oasis first album) has been elected as one of the best 10 albums in Rock History by sand the 2nd in the 90´s (just behind Nirvana´s Nevermind)..U2 has made great records but none of them so good to be considered one of the best in history.

and last but not least certainly...OASIS DEFINED A GENERATION...just like Elvis in the 50´s,The Beatles in the 60´s ...Oasis defined a post-grunge 90´s generation..you cannot say the same about U2........one recommendation PLEASE LISTEN TO THE OASIS CATALOGUE!!!!!!! you´ll find the answer there

Lets just do a little math, shall we?

They've won 22 Grammys in the past 20 years.
They've sold approximately 50.5 since 1980.
They're one of the top five most successful live acts of the past 10 years.
They've inspired countless other bands... including Smashing Pupmkins, No Doubt, Pearl Jam, Rage Against the Machine... not to mention Oasis.
They're argumentally one of the most critically acclaimed bands of the last 20 years.

No... I don't think they're overrated and I think they certainly belong in the same list as Queen, The Rolling Stones or even The Beatles. U2 has a worldwide recognition. Even if everyone in the United States and the UK combined spontaneously decided not to buy one more U2 album or concert ticket they'd still be one of the biggest bands worldwide because of their universal message and timeless music. Oasis could barely hold it together for ten years without getting coked up and fighting on stage... their song catalogue doesn't even come close to the list of mediocre songs written by U2 let alone the classics.

I think your point is that you respect U2 for their longevity and their accomplishments but you've never really cared for them as a band. That's your opinion, but it hardly makes them an overrated band. I think if you ever attended a U2 concert and saw how they commanded the stage from the first note to the final encore, you'd realize this is no ordinary band. They are something spectacular.

The Fact is U2 are one of the Biggest Bands of all time... they have been at there top of their game for about 30 years now and don't show any signs of slowing down.... They dont get put up thier with the best for no reason... They have won more Grammy's than any other Rock Band... I am a fellow Oasis fan too but they are not up there with U2.

Everyone has their opinions on Music and what bands they may like better but their is no doubt U2 are maybe the greatest band of all time.

No, where dropped on your head as a small child? why shouldn't U2 be named along with the Beatles, Stones, and Queen, they have been on top of the Rock world for over twenty years. Who gives you the right to say their overrated just because they weren't the first on the scene. and seriously Oasis? they have two songs Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova which are better than a couple of U2 songs, but U2 has consistently put out great songs over a long period of time.

I'd certainly consider U2 to be better than Queen.

And one factor is the stretch of time they have been together. Oasis wasn't together for that long.

U2 is not overrated at all. They have earned their right to be as wonderfully admired with the years they have been going at it. I like Oasis but U2 is a classic band who has never tried to be anything but what and who they are. :)

I agree with you, they are overrated, but I think that U2 deserves to be in the top 10.
