Papillary cancer has the best prognosis of all thyroid cancers. Stage I means the cancer is self contained and has not spread beyond the confines of the tumor capsule. That is EXCELLENT news for you!

I-131 whole body radiation is given to ablate, or destroy, the remaining thyroid cancer cells that surgery was unable to remove. Because thyroid cancer cells convert iodine to produce thryoid hormone, they readily "take up" radioactive iodine and are killed from the radiation. This provides the best chance at complete erradication of the cancer.

In addition to surgery and I-131 ablation, most thyroid cancer is treated by "suppressing" the TSH levels below normal. TSH acts to stimulate the growth and production of thyroid hormone. By suppressing the TSH level, any remaining thyroid cells and/or thyroid cancer cells not killed by the radiation are kept in an inactive state. The current guidelines recommend the TSH be suppressed below 0.1

Remember, it only takes one cancer cell to grow and divide into a million cancer cells. Thyroid cancer is one of the easiest cancers to cure. Do everything possible to keep your cancer in check.

Good luck!!

RAI is given to kill any remaining cancer, I would get it done. I am 30 now but in 2002, I had my thyroid removed and a neck dissection. I had a endo that did not tell me about the low iodine diet for my treatments. I had another neck dissection in 2003 and on the 10th of this month I had a full thoracotomy to remove a near near my heart. Because my cancer had been left too long the RAI does me little benifit now and I have to have surgery anytime the cancer comes back. There is a great free support group on the sources listing below, some members there may be able to tell you if they were able to avoid the therapy

Making dietary changes is your first line of defense in treating hypothyroidism. Learn here https://tr.im/CGgWN

Many people with hypothyroidism experience crippling fatigue and brain fog, which prompts reaching for non-nutritional forms of energy like sugar and caffeine. I’ve dubbed these rascals the terrible twosome, as they can burn out your thyroid (and destabilize blood sugar).

1. Just say no to the dietary bungee cord. Greatly reduce or eliminate caffeine and sugar, including refined carbohydrates like flour, which the body treats like sugar. Make grain-based carbohydrates lesser of a focus, eating non-starchy vegetables to your heart’s content.

2. Up the protein. Protein transports thyroid hormone to all your tissues and enjoying it at each meal can help normalize thyroid function. Proteins include nuts and nut butters; quinoa; hormone- and antibiotic-free animal products (organic, grass-fed meats, eggs, and sustainably-farmed fish); and legumes.

Faith healers can lay hands on you and God can heal you. If you don't want to go through all of the pain and suffering associated with iodine therapy, then why not try it? God wants to heal you, He is just waiting for you to ask Him to. Go find a good Pentecostal bible believing church that operates in the gifts of the Spirit.
