It isn't love, it isn't lust, it isn't obsession...so what is it? Caring? Selfishness? Suddenly, I become enamored with the person, yet I have no romantic thoughts and am not obsessed. I just want to smile at them and talk to them and in my wildest dreams, I would simply hug them or cry on their shoulder.

I think everyone wants to be accepted. When someone pays you attention, it's like you feel you finally found that ONE person who is really going to "get" who you are, and they're going to like who you are.
The reality is, you need to like and accept yourself. If you find someone else who likes to be around you, that's wonderful, but you have to learn to be your own best friend. Things change, and so do the people around you, but you always have you. Once you get to that point, you'll find the attention of others isn't as important as you thought it was.

I'm the same way, when I'm in need of attention and that person comes along and talks to me then I'm all over them...talking and emails!
