There were problems between Sal and Sara Gilbert so the producers replaced him with Michael Fishman.

They should have kept him, he was an adorable child, more so by far than Michael. However, Michael grew up to be extremely good looking.

I am pretty sure the story goes that he was very unprofessional, disobedient and constantly running around the studio.
