Just get a little homestead out in the country, grow your own food, and never read the news?

I get this way when I have had a difficult case load at work and start feeling very burnt out. I need to recharge and work on processing my compassion fatigue. There is so much ugliness in this world that it is nice to ignore it for a while and pretend that it doesn't exist. I realize however that if everyone were to feel that way then nothing would ever change so I go back to trying to make positive changes in other's lives. When we do this we change more than just that person as good has a ripple effect and spreads onward.

I grew up like that, in Australia, where we grew our own food and didn't have a TV. It gets pretty lonely, and there's less convenience. You can't just up and catch a bus or train to your friend's house anymore, you have to drive hours to the nearest town.

High-speed internet? Forget it. Cell phone coverage? Maybe, but you're roaming now. Better job market? Definitely not.

Your recreational and social event choices become more limited. And if something goes wrong, like say you have an accident, there'll be nobody around for miles to help you.

Most definitely! I could live on an island and write for the rest of my life. Occasionally, I would take time to be with those I love or possibly, bring them with me.

Yes, and be away from people ,,,
But I know I am not mechanically inclined, nor a forager, nor a survivor, so I wouldn't make it alive.
