I am my aunts only living reletive. She has no assets, and is racking up horrible medical bills throughout her long-term illness. A friend of mine told me that the hospital will be coming after ME to pay her bills when she dies....Is this true?

Heavens, no. You say she has no assets, which would be the only place they could look for payment. PLEASE don't let those creditors bully you into anything. I have a friend who was divorced for 10 years before her ex died, & people are still trying to get money out of her for his bills. I told her she can get help from the FTC--if they continue to call & harrass her, they will be fined. They can be very intimidating & try to convince you you're responsible, but you are NOT.

No, you are not responsible for her bills, and by law, you cannot be made to pay them. If she has an estate, they would be paid from that. In your case, you mention she has nothing. The hospital will write it off as a loss.

They cannot make you pay for her bills even if you are her only living relative. They can however go after her estate for her bills which means if she has any property they can try and seize it to sell and pay some of her bills.

unless you signed the documents for financial responsibility of the bills, then there in not a chance in heck. they will be paid out of your aunts estate, so just don't count on getting an inheritance form her, that all. when the estate runs out of money, the debtors out of luck.

No.. you are not responsible. Her estate will be responsible for paying her debts. If there is not enough in her estate, then the bills just won't be paid.

Get rid of the friend...that is rubbish..of course not.. you Aunt is protected and you need to seek the interenet and phone for help there are a lot of agencies out there to help

those hospitals and dialysis clinics can't have the money for to handle people for loose. i'm not sure why this is the accountability of Amercan taxpayers to pay for his or her dialysis. the folk who artwork on the clinics ought to get a paycheck - or ought to they be envisioned to artwork for loose? I even have been on dialysis and that i hate the theory somebody w/ kidney failure won't be able to get therapy. on the different hand, our gadget is puzzled now and we will not pay for criminal people who want heathcare. did you apply for medicare or medical? they should pay for it. If she has a life insurance policy of any property the can take that, but they can't come after you personally.

No hell no you dont have to pay for it. Its not your fault she got bad credit, and dont sign ANY documents read everything first because the man will try to trick you so he can get his paper YA FEEL ME, Although if you livin in a house of hers or you driving her car or anything that has her name on it they can take it so make sure you got a living for yourself because yo definintly cant depend on her to help you survive if she rackin up stuff like dat
