Is it ethical for me to charge a different price because I enjoy tutoring someone?

If I enjoy tutoring someone, I don't want to risk losing them as a client, so I believe it is ethical to charge them less. What do you think?

If it IS ethical, then that means I could charge someone more for being smelly, or more for being ugly. Then does that mean that if I didn't like asians I could charge them more because they're asian?

I too sell a service, and my prices vary on these services. If you are a regular customer and frequently refer others I give generous discounts. If the customer is difficult to please and badgers me for lower prices then not only will the service be more expensive but I may conveniently be "booked".

Business is business! Good question.

Businesses charge different customers different prices all the time. Most customers don't know this but it happens in a wide variety of industries. As for ethics?

There are two general guidebooks when it comes to such things. Morals and ethics. Morals come from God and can be found in the Bible. There is a story about a man in the Bible who paid people to come work in his fields. Some people came early in the day because he was paying well. Others came about noon and ALL received the same pay because that's what each agreed to work for. Some things in life are unfair but that's life.

Ethics come from man. What one person deems ethical another criticizes. I figure as long as it's moral and legal who cares about what people think. Keep your mouth shut about your business because it's nobody elses.

No. However, it is NOT unethical to charge them differently if you wish to keep them as a customer, such as a "faithful customer discount". Many department stores do this for customers who have a credit account with them for X number of years. Interestingly, you can't charge more to get rid of a customer. However, you can charge more if you have to put more resources, time, or effort into tutoring them, because it is a service that you are providing. Be careful though! If you have a contract with them, read it closely before you do anything.

If they are smelly, yes.

If they are ugly or Asian, no.
