here goes:
A girl was on a camping trip in a nature reserve when she was awaken late one night by a strange noise.

i want to write that the noise was caused by smugglers moving contraband cigarettes, and they were going to hide the cigarettes in a nature reserve. The girl found them and informed the police.

Do you think it is realistic? And can you tell me if mobile phones can be used in nature reserves? Can signals be received?

It's not unrealistic. You're going to need to set the nature reserve somewhere near a border that the smugglers are bringing the cigarettes across.

Signals can often be received in nature reserves, but it depends on the particular reserve and what sort of terrain you're talking about. A reserve in the Australian outback? Doubtful. Something in South Florida? Sure.

Your one trouble spot might be figuring out why cigarettes have to be smuggled. Are they illegal in a particular place?

Good luck!

I think the most problematic part of this work is the smugglers hiding cigarettes on a nature reserve. As for the cell phone reception, I have no idea.
p.s. To the person who gave me the thumbs down, I gave her an honest opinion. I also answered truthfully about something I do not know. What's your beef?

1) Its a good start but it will take a bit of fleshing out to take it from there.. The cigarettes are the cause of the story.. but you have to write the effect.

Cell phones will generally work in many nature reserves if you are within 6 miles of an antenna... antennas are placed near populated areas and between them, so simply place your reserve on the coast or border near some town. better still make it an island .. about 2 miles off the coast.. too far to swim but still within range of the antennas...

now bring on the hide and seek part... (grin)

good luck.....

you need to make all the parts relate to each other.
The girl is camping out at Flamingo campground[ an actual place] in everglades national Park Florida
She hears a power boat cut its engines offshore and then hears what she believes to be drug smugglers offloading contraband
she calls the rangers da da da da,
Is this version everybody has a realistic reason to be where they are.

Yes is realistic. It would depend upon the location of the cell tower, unless it is a satelite phone, they are supposed to be able to work world wide. they use satelites instead of towers.
