No, little by little freedom is being eaten away. Think about it -------- remember these rules are for YOUR own good because you don't know how to care for yourself.
No smoking in any public place, even in your car eventually
Cannot talk on hand held cell phones while driving
No more trans fatty foods allowed in NYC shops and restaurants
Cannot spank or discipline any child 3 yrs or under
McCain Feingold bill takes away free speech 30 days before election
Teachers may not touch or discipline stidemts in classroom

Depends where YOU are from. I live in the United States of America. We live in a free democracy.
Tell me what country you're from.

it is only kinda some thing for the hicks to rave about. Plus, u.s. is very remoted. all and sundry knows about our lifestyle even though it must be uncommon to locate a information record concerning yet another usa's affairs. opposite to prevalent conception, we are not stupid; only uninformed. besides, you could't lump in each and every American in a unmarried team and positioned a quite label on it to simplify your concepts. There are 2 sides to u.s.. The each and every from time to time quiet and modern area that pushes for a more desirable ecu-like usa and the scared conservative brainwashed people and rednecks(i'm sorry i believe the perfect note is usa song action picture star) do not you even attempt to cajole anybody that this wasn't a very biased "question" regardless of the actuality that.

Go live in China and then ask yourself that question.....
We are so spoiled in the US and expect so much with us doing so little... Many people are so spoiled and act and live as if the world owes them something.... It is really just the opposite... More is expected of us to make this a better place to live and we should accept more responsibility for our own future and the future of others.

No. I believe, as I understand Chomsky's statement, that we are a cleverly managed society. The man behind the curtain is operating our democracy. They have used the incredible psychological research that has come about through the improvements in advertising, to manipulate the herd to believe what the man (or should I say, men) behind the curtain want (s) us to believe.
And sadly, the most information that directly enables people to fight these herd manipulations happens to be located in books. Thanks to the advent of television and the decline of the written word, those who have the tools to see beyond it are becoming few and far between.

when we have kids raising kids, and the family that can't spank their kids for something they did wrong.
when we have 10yr old kids killing other kids, because they have better shoes
No we don't live in a free country... if we are free then why in the heck, can't we take care of some of the problems like our grandparents would have...
Back in the 50-60 we would have never heard of a 10 yr old with a gun at school... heck NO kid would have thought of that
a spanking never hurt anyone... and if did... they would remember it the next time they tried to do something stupid

Well, when the government thinks they need to tell you how to discipline your children, and by the way threaten to incarcerate you for their possible behavior...I thinks freedom is a question.
......when most people pay over 30% in income not counting other taxes such as House, car, sales +50% in taxes to which we apparently have "no" say so as to how this is spent...
...and they take 7.5% out of your check to give to "unearned income", Illegal immigrant welfare, etc, while they predict your retirement contribute is becoming insolvent.
..I guess we do not have freedom but are "enslaved" by the government!
...I got news for "Lincoln" slavery is not over!...it is is the middle and lower middle class!!!!

Yes we are a limited free country.
Freedom is like a tree. You can hit it with an ax once a day and for a long time it will still stand.
However, like freedom, if you keep chopping away the tree will fall.

Yes. It is still about independence of powers, abidance of law and respect to authority, exactly the kind of things that make up for ingenuity, peace of mind and respect aboundant.
Last thing some need in our country is contradiction in references to coexistance or war habits.
