It is a tragedy and I can tell by your message that it is upsetting to you. Im glad you feel the need to get this off your chest because it is good to do that and to answer your question or statement.
No I guess I don't believe in the death penalty. but there sure are days that I wish I did. There are sick people out there and I hate the fact that we are supporting them to stay protected in a prison that we the tax payers are supporting. What bothers me more is the Young Offenders Act. What the heck is it with this at 21 their record can be cleared and any info will not be given out.
Heck some times it is a 13 year old doing the killing and you can't tell me they don't understand what they are doing.

I don't believe in the death penalty .. doesn't that make us just as bad as the criminal being punished ?
Sex offenders need life in prison though ;; its unsafe to have them on the streets with kids .. the poor victims sometimes live lives of torment afterwards .. I can't even imagine!!!
But on the topic of the 2 boys' from the midwest's case .. I kind of wonder why the older one didn't take his chance && escape .. he had a cell phone, Myspace, freedom to walk around outside. Thats some powerful mind control ;; very suspecious.
& as for the one who was found after 4 days .. I hope he forgets the whole experience, lives a normal life, && I PRAY that the weirdo who kidnapped him didn't have the chance to abuse him in any way. It sounds like the kid has a very supportive family ;; I hope they get him through this.
My prayers are with both of em. & the kidnapper, actually. He needs help. What makes people do that stuff ??

The kidnapper should stay in prison for the rest of his life . When they take a child they loose the right to walk in society . Who knows what went through the 1st boys' mind for 4 years ? And the other child ? The main thing
is that two kids are back with their families when the odds were against it . Being captive 4 years , that boy will need a world of help-but on the surface , he seems to be in good spirits . Time will tell for both boys .

I don't think we have enuff info about this situation to judge. I agree, there is a lot that just doesn't add up. Those boys have been damaged, missed out on a lot and will have long-term issues from this, I pray for them and their future.

As for the death penalty, if it were a member of my family, I think my first reaction would be in favor of it. But once you really look into the effects of the death penalty, it seems to hurt more innocent people, i.e., members of the guilty person's family. They have to both deal with what their family member has done and also losing them to death...I don't feel sorry for the guilty person, but I might feel for his mother or son who did nothing wrong, but are punished by their lost just the same. It also costs too much money in America to sentence someone to death. I think only for the very worst of crimes of murder would I not have a problem with it if I was a member of the jury.

I believe all sex offenders should be locked up WITH the general prison population instead of in isolation and the situation would soon right itself. As for the teen who had been kidnapped four years earlier.....What was going on in his life with his family before he was abducted to make him think life with a predator was better than trying to escape and go home.

There are too many things about this situation that don't seem to add up. I will reserve judgement until everything comes out in the open.
