When they are too big to fit in the adult fish's mouths.

Good job using a heater and filter. Go get a ten gallon tank to grow them out in. You'll go nuts changing water in that tiny tank daily to keep it good enough not to kill them. You can get a plain ten gallon tank for about ten dollars. You could start out with the filter and heater you have, maybe, if they are adequate, but a sponge filter is pretty inexpensive.

If you have just tons of cover plants in the main tank they might be able to hide from the big fish if you need to put them back in soon.

I totally accept as true with Trevor. in case you want to understand at the same time as to placed fry decrease back for any breed, a strong estimate to bypass by technique of might want to be larger than the food you feed them, and then enable them strengthen yet another few weeks extra to verify that the guy fish received't choke them down besides. if you aren't any further effective, then you surely can't in any respect be too secure with those type of issues, so take a at the same time as with the turning out to be till you experience thoroughly delicate allowing them to bypass.

I'd wait until they are half an inch, a few more months. Good luck keeping them alive in a tiny 1.5 gallon tank. They aren't going to grow too fast when they're that crowded.

i've never had platys, but i have little tetras and guppies, but when they have babys, the babys just hide under rocks, or inside bushes, or wherever they feel safe, so i dont think you need to isolate them, just provide a variety of choices for the babies to hide in. only sepetrate them if they're aggressive fishes.
