We have just switched from having a hostess to now holding our own bank. The boss says it will be easier. He's been trying to get out of the business, I think.

He's been telling everyone that he's short money, there are too many ones in the drawer, etc, etc.

Does this make any sense to anyone? It doesn't to me.
Any opinions would be appreciated. Thank you.

By too many ones in the drawer, I meant that the boss thinks that there are too many tens, fives & ones (paper money) in the drawer at the end of the night.

Maybe this will clarify.

Every restaurant I've ever waitressed in has had me holding my own bank. It does make life easier - you won't be constantly running to the cash register all the time. And everyone is accountable for their own money so no one can be blamed for someone else's shortcoming. Trust me, it's a very common occurrence.

i worked at a restaurant where they did this and it kind of sucked. they do it so they're not the ones that get stiffed. i got stiffed out of $50 one shift because the hostess took money off the table and someone forgot to put it in the drawer and it went "missing". so not only did i not get a tip, i had to end up paying from my bank the entire check.

just be careful!
