Joseph Campbell said: "Myth is the secret opening through which the inexhaustible energies of the cosmos pour into human manifestation."

I also know that C.S. Lewis often talked about the importance of myth.

What do you think?

Myth is part of the human psche. It is how we connect to the 'greater whole' than ourselves. Myth lets us understand things about the universe, society, and ourselves that we couldn't just by our rational selves. Myth is the language of the innerself, the dream-self. It is a way to hold on to hope, to faith, to belief in ultimate truth and justice. It is also a guide on how to achieve those ends. Looking deeply into the myths of a culture will give great insight into the minds and souls of those people and will allow for better understanding. Myths cross all boundaries...you will find certain themes over and over again in many different times and cultures. It makes you wonder, sometimes, and realize that we really are all 'connected' in some sort of cosmic web.

Myths and legends often teach moral lessons. They are traditions that are passed down from generation to generation. Some are just fun. Many myths and legends form the basis for religious beliefs and have a very special place in peoples lives.

Myth is ok, as long as it isn't taken too seriously. Religion has given myth a bad name.
