Depending on how pale you are you may need to start out at around 10-15 minutes on a 20 minute bed. Whereever you decide to go tanning at, the person who waits on you will help you decide your best starting time, based on your skin color, natural hair and eye color, and if you burn easily in the sun. To start I usually use just a level one tanning creme for my body and I use about an spf 4 on my face. They usually sell facial tanning lotions at the places and some have bronzers in them. After tanning for several weeks or so at 20 minutes (or whatever the max is at the place you go) you can move to the level 2 tanning lotions. If you want to save money you can buy the lotions at a place like Walmart, or a drug store. When I tan I go in the nude but I know others who wear underwear so they can see their progress.

Since tanning dries you out, make sure you moisturize afterwards as the tanning lotions won't be good enough. Also exfoliate your skin before you start tanning. Wear eye protection in the bed and use the eye pieces that go over each eye individually so you dont have any weird line over your nose.

Good luck on your tanning expedition! =)

I understand...i get real pale in the winter. You can go in the buff. You will go to the tanning salon. They will ask you questions about your skin and complexion. Based on that they will put you in the appropriate bed for the appropriate time. You don't need lotions, but if you want some, you can pick them up at the tanning salon. They usually have a wide selection and can help recommend an appropriate lotion based on your complexion. The bed is in a private room that you can strip in...hence there is no need for a bathing suit. I prefer the stand-up beds...like the orbit, but they are high intensity so you should work on a base first to see how your skin reacts. Remember to put lotion on afterwards (a regular moisturizer) because they have a tendency to dry your skin out. Also, instead of the tanning beds, there are also lots of sunless tanning booths...you literally get sprayed down with tanner. I guess the real benefit of the sunless tanning is that you get results quicker.

Most people don't wear a bathing suit, I think. We I have done it, I wore my panties but nothing else. Make sure you move positions in the bed (arms up, exc.) or you will have places of your body that don't get tan ha ha! Um, you need lotion because it really does make a difference. They sell some expense kind at the salon but you can go to Wal-mart and get some for cheaper than works just as well. Just make sure it's not oil or they won't let you use it! I'm not sure about the beds, but it is important that the bulbs are changed regularly.

You can tan nude or wear your undies...your choice. There are lotions and accelerators made for tanning beds, but you don't have to have them. Not much different than regular suntanning-just faster.

If you knew all the risks, you wouldn't be considering tanning beds.

if you tan in a tanning bed you'll get cancer and die a long painful death. just buy the spray on!
