Question Details: We are releasing people who abuse Children in a sexual manner and jailing those who look at pictures, because they are all covered by the term Paedophile. Surely seperate terms to differentiate between dangerous hands on nutter perverts like the pervert who removed my previous question, vis a vis those who just look at pictures would focus peoples minds on the relative seriousness of the two offences.

Our society is a mess. We are so rich, in historical and world terms, that how much of a mess is not hitting home yet. When the "poo hits the wirly thing" (deleted questions is my middle name) we will crumble like an old scone. There is just no sense of perspective anymore.
I have a solution to your quandry in two parts.
1 UK builds more prisons so that we can imprison people who should not be walking around. (Rocket science, this, if you are the Home Secretary)
2 Don't ask anymore questions here. I stopped a week ago and feel fine now.
The fact that you referred to the person who deleted your question as a pervert will, i'm sure lead to the deletion of this question. Sooner or later the only question on YA will be "what is your favourite colour?" As all the wit and creativity is drained away by moronic ****-wits (sorry, people with alternative views) who have nothing better to do than stomp on the sandcastles other people have built.
Your point about defining what is what, and the question of "degrees" of offence is spot-on. It is a shame that sections of the national press want to "blur" information all the time. Their effect is super-destructive.

It is not meaningless to me.
I do think serious offenders (those who have molested, abused or abducted children) should have a more severe punishment than those who are just looking (have not molested, abused or abducted etc) but are getting satisfaction, are aiding and abetting the criminal and should be punished severely but perhaps the judge will determine how severely that punishment will be in accordance with the details surrounding the case.
A strong deterrent in addition to a time served sentence in my opinion would be total removal of genitals and public shaming.**
I do not think these people have the right to remain anonymous in our society, perhaps a tattoo on the forehead would be a good idea too.**
** Naturally the evidence against the offender would have to be proven beyond doubt.
Update.
If these people feel they have Paedophile tendencies or are drawn towards children in what would be considered an unhealthy way, they are quite capable (even before they offend) to seek professional help and protect the children that may be harmed.
Mental illness or other illness would only be an excuse to commit the crime. These people know their tendencies so they should be responsible enough to seek help.

If somebody can bring them self to look at pictures of kids being raped and abused should be locked up they are a danger to the public they are funding the paedophiles and are just as bad as they are the word is a blanket term for somebody who has urges towards children whether they actually give in to those urges or not. If there was somebody who took pictures of a child in your family (god hope it never happens) would you not want them jailed? I certainly would the pictures would probably give the abuser the confidence to move up to the next step as he/she could see that some one else is doing the discus ting act and probably getting away with it. I believe any crime of sexual abuse should warrent life imprisonment.

If a person is looking at pictures of children in that sense, they are encouraging that kind of abuse. they are equally guilty.
Release people from prison, such as those who won't or can't pay a debt, let them do community service.
Then there will be more room to lock up paedophiles, and those who look at photos of children for sexual gratification...

There is an expression that 'the law is an ***.' Some of the judges who hand out very lenient sentences for serious crimes should be retired. As you say there should be different terminology to differentiate between criminal acts. It should be obvious to these judges which is the more serious crime.They are supposed to be intelligent and well educated.

Whether pedophilia is a sexual orientation or mental disorder is still in debate, like how homosexuality was considered a disease a few decades ago. Although it is still in debate, some overly self-reightous people are very stubborn and are certain that pedophilia is a mental disorder.
Most pedophiles are certainly not child molesters and certainly are not evil. It is merely a social delusion based on prejudice, Nazi style hate, and primal human instinct.
1. The police arrested the pedophile because he was attracted to children, not because he had sex with one and harmed one.
2. The court ordered the pedophile to be sentenced to death although he did not commit a crime.
3. Most pedophiles are NOT evil as bigots/narrow minded people think so
4. People who kill pedophiles or want them slain are the sick and depraved ones who need some immediate and serious treatment.

heres how i see it, even if they just like to look at pictures, its still wrong. Some may see it as harmless but when children are molested for those pictures to be taken the damage is still done. I say we take out everyone of the sick pricks.
