It figures that people would say gravity. Honestly, people, I don't think that was the answer this particular character was looking for...
To answer the question...
Everything that is thrown up falls down because that is the way. If it lingered up in the air, it would be like leaning a scale to one side, and the world doesn't work like that. There always has to be atleast 2 forces counterbalancing eachother. I.E. Chaos vs. Order...
So if it goes up, it must come down because if not it would defy the natural balance of everything...
Good enough?

You mean like a ball, or vomit? Either way, because of the law of gravity. What goes up must come down. Kind of like moods. Never be too happy. So much further to fall. Keep your expectations low & you can't plummet to the ground. The higher the hopes the more devestating the crash...but I'm going off on a tangent...sorry! I had a crash recently & I'm still recovering...

Not everything that is thrown up falls down.
So your assumption is false.
If it were true we wouldn't have satellites in orbit or be able to send robots to Mars.

Not everything; where's my balloon and my bird. Things come to the greater mass or weight in relation to a distance.
