I thought that when one works for an agency like the CIA...as a 'spy', then the 'spy' should NEVER have to think about/worry about being outed by anyone in and around the Oval Office?
So...what's up with this Scooter Libby-Karl Rove-Robert Novak-
Valerie Plame thingy?

OK! OK!
Spy or agent, whatever whatever!
Should he or she ever have to worry about being outed by people in and around the Oval Office?

You are absolutely right. Some have tried to defend Libby and whoever by saying that Plame was not a covert agent at the time her name was revealed. That doesn't matter in the slightest. Over the course of her career, she made contacts and gathered information in her guise as an international businessperson. Who knows what has happened to people who gave her information? And just as bad or worse: what will this incident do to our attempts to gain information in this way in the future? What informant in his/her right mind would make contact with a CIA agent? The international community has learned that the executive wing of our government has become so politicized that CIA agents (current or former) may be "outed" for purely political reasons, and the President of the U.S. won't do a thing about it.

It's amazing how upset some people got about Monica Lewinsky, but apparently don't care about covert international operations.

Spies and spying will never be truly obsolete. Sure technology is great but its a chancy thing to be laying all your eggs in one basket. Perchance there is a global war and mankind is on the brink of self-destruction. People are bombed, run from their homes, living day to day with no utilities. There's no electricity, no phones, no decent standard of living. Yet there is still some form of government controlling whats left and waging war. About 90% of the advanced technology that made spying "obsolete" is now useless and unusable. Spying however is still there and always a workable solution to intelligence gathering.

Another example.... you strap on your super duper spy suit that does everything for you. Such as see in the dark, tap phone lines, decipher secret handshakes. Your on a big mission that is vital to the lives of millions. On your way to the big mission you trip into a puddle of water and short out the suit. OH NO! Run away! You can't do it without the suit! No No No. You hafta use good old-fashioned spy work now. Dagnabbit and to think we almost made that stuff obsolete. In our rush to embrace the "NEW" we almost shot ourselves in the foot by ignoring the old.

It wasn't a mistake it is part of the Administrations plan for the Neo Cons, just like Hitler had the SS. The name was provided on purpose and if Libby was smart he would reveal everything and everyone involved to open the investigations. They are all guilty from Bush on down in that white house and they know it and so do you and I.n They are their own leaks.

There are no such things as spies anymore, they've become obsolete with modern technology.

Valerie Plame was a CIA agent. It's a big difference...
