If I were you I would wait to lay down the large amount of cash for a PS3 or Xbox 360.

I have a PS2 and am a faithful sony fan, though I also own an Xbox.

As of right now, the only reason to buy a PS3 would be for the graphics because there are hardly any good games out for the PS3 right now, let alone any "Great" ones.

The Xbox 360, on the other hand, has a good amount of classic and awesome games like Gears of War, the upcoming Halo 3 this year, Project Gotham Racing and Lost planet.

The PS3 will, inevitbly since it is a more powerful system than the Xbox 360, be able to support better and more beautifully rendered games in the future like the upcoming RPG-shooter-adventure game Mass Effect and the incredibly highly-anticipated Metal Gear Solid 4.

In the end though, you've got to ask yourself if you are going to shell out that dough for video game systems and also ask yourself if you are going to play on them that much.

I, myself, have been cutting back on playing video games because they take up too much of my time.

I may be a bit biased, considering i own a ps3, but ps3 is definitely what you should go with. It's backwards compatible with all your ps2 games, if your into that. More importantly though, I think that in the future it will be far better off. The 360 uses DVDs to store its games, holding a puny 4.7 gigs, while the ps3s blu-ray discs hold 25 gigs, which leads me to believe developers will be able to make future games much better than current games for the ps3. Also, it just plain more powerful, and you won't have to get used to holding the much more bulky 360 controllers after always using a ps2 one.

There are numerous reasons in favor of either--in your case I would recommend the PS3. If you wanted a similarly configured Xbox360 (HD-DVD player), you would need to spend $600, and you would have an ugly setup.

The xbox360 has been out longer and has the hardware bugs worked out--most of the initial release consoles are dead. It supports up to 1080i (component cable) resolution, and has well over 100 games, having had a 1 year head start. However, this time lag is also it's undoing. The Xbox360 hardware is by far inferior to that of the PS3. PS3 has a leg up on the cpu, graphics card, and several nifty ports missing on the xbox360 (hdmi, optical, sd/cf/msd, bluetooth, etc.). Thanks to the HDMI, PS3 supports 1080p resolution and full 7.1 surround sound (applicable receivers only). And unlike the Xbox360, PS3 supports the installation of other operating systems! I have Linux running on my PS3 for word processing, media center concerns, aim, etc., and I switch back to the Sony XMB to play games at the click of a button.

Unfortunately, the PS3 launch was poor at best, with several key titles pushed back several months. In fact, several of the non-exclusive PS3 titles were rushed and appear much better on the xbox counterpart. As of yet, there have been no widespread reports of PS3 hardware failures--take this with a grain of salt (unfounded reports of several non-working cell cores on average). The quality of Sony hardware in general is very high--so I took the plunge and purchased a console early. You really can't beat the PS3 price when you consider that it is by far the cheapest Blu-Ray player on the market. Within a year or two, you will definitely begin to see the difference in gaming quality--a DL blu-ray disc will have up to 50gb of information, while the standard xbox360 DL-DVD only has 8.5gb...

The 360 is a safer bet in the short run, and it certainly has better games right now. Comparing the differences between the hardware, my only conclusion was to sell the 360... Even if the PS3 line dies due to Wii pressures, I will always have use for it as a high-quality dvd-player and freestanding pc.

I forgot, xbox360 gets -3 points for having a massive BRICK for a power supply. Ugh. The PS3 has an internal one. The xbox360 has a tray loader and sports multiple "skins." The PS3 has a beautiful finish, touch-pressure buttons, and no tray. History will certainly remember the PS3 for looking ELEGANT if nothing else.

Also, you've got that massive collection of PS2 games and hardware laying about. There are (somewhat) cheap adapters flooding the market to connect them to the PS3 usb ports, and ALL ps2 games are supported (upscaled if necesssary). I assume you don't have any original xbox games--that alone would steer me towards the PS3.

The Xbox 360. I have heard so many things wrong w/ the PS3. Plus, it's been out longer, meaning that they'll have more games.

If I was rich enough to be someone to spend like there's no tomorrow, I would totally get the PS3. I tried it out 3 times on the display ones (that still haven't been stolen) in GameStop. Not a single problem. The games are like WICKED. Imagery and graphics, OMG.

I'd go for a 360. The online has a better infrastructure, and it has a better GPU. However if you like Sony and think the upcoming games look good, go for a PS3. But have fun playing Resistance and.....well.....Resistance is about it.

Hector is an idiot. The PS3 has no bugs to date. If you are looking for the exclusive games that ps2 got, go for ps3. That, and the majority of people are going for the Wii, the ps3, and the xbox360 last.
