Why do so many people want to take away black history month. This goes all the way back to the slave master days when they made it the sole job to erase all of our history, our culture, names, language and most of all our identity and nationality. So that we as a people will forget who we are and were we come from, then replace it with new history there history.
In 1832 a U.S. Senator named Henry Berry said to the Virginia house of Delegates: "We have as far as possible closed every avenue by which the truth may enter the slave's mind. If we could extinguish the capacity to see the truth, our work would be complete. They would then be on the level with the beast of the field".

Our experts warned us about the possibility of this phenomenon occurring, for they say that the mind has a strong drive to correct and recorrect itself over a period of time if it can touch some substantial original historical base and they advise us that the best way to deal with this phenomenon is to shave off the brutes mental history and create a multiplicity of phenomena of illusions, so that each illusion will twirl in its own orbit, something similar to floating balls in a vacuum.

"Most whites will protest that they bear neither responsibility nor blame for the conditions Blacks face. Neither they nor their for bearers ever owned slaves nor can they see themselves as having held anyone back or down." Today the younger generations of Whites resent being held morally or financially responsible for the racial sins of their ancestors, even though as whites, they still enjoy the inherited advantages and privileges of slavery."

I...don't have a problem with Black History Month. What I have a problem with is that somebody feels the need to designate such a thing. It always struck me as a buy-off for all the years of oppression, subjugation, and discrimination. Instead of recognizing what happened and moving on, exemplification of a minority is made and it seems the same old divisive issues are brought up every February.
Bury the hatchet, you know? Besides, why not have a Asian History Month, or a White History Month, or better yet, a Native-American History month?

Are you serious black people have been here longer than ALMOST any other minority groups that's why!!! The same reason white people are everywhere and have all there businesses, Are you guys segregating yourself?? No!! You have achieved alot of goals and now black people are as well. We have our own shows, our own everything and we worked just as hard if not harder to get it!!! Now other races are doing the same. We whine!! What are you all doing on here!!!! Everywhere I go I see other cultures making lives from themselves over here but black people have been here educated ourselves that's why there are so many black colleges, getting good job, starting businesses, programs, and organizations. Sometimes it seems like Racist people are mad that we have made a way for ourselves and come this far. Well guess what stop your whining and get used to it.

Your question as well as your additional posts are quite informative. But just remember that history is always told from some bias. That and there are a lot of ignorant colorstruck people in the world who place more stock in their phenotype (how their genetic composition is expressed physically) than their actual genotype (the genetic composition itself).
I'll just brace myself for all the ignorant (unaware, not stupid) comments that will be posted next month as Black History Month commences. I will not waste my time debating with people who rather stymie in their "bliss" than actually picking up SEVERAL BOOKS, talking to SEVERAL PEOPLE, and travelling outside this country. In other words, LEARN.
N.B. --- Black History Month is not a "legislated" holiday. You can choose to participate or not. Some of you must live in some monolithic cities, because if you live in a metropolis, there is a parade or a month of reconigtion for nearly EVERY ethnic group.

I don't dislike Black History Month, I dislike all pointless holidays. I don't go and search out veterans to hang out with on Veterans Day. I have off on President's Day and it's not so I can brush up on my George Washington trivia. Celebrating my independence on Independence Day? Try celebrating hot dogs, beer and fireworks. How about a nice Columbus Day reenactment? Yeah, I didn't think so.
Equality and acceptance should be something you strive for every day - not just in February. If you want to celebrate your culture than just do it! It shouldn't matter if there is or isn't a Black History Month to remind you of its importance.
And is it the culture of native African tribes to put MLK Day on a Monday so they can have a long weekend? I'm guessing no. And you should realize that blacks aren't the only ones who were ever mistreated in this country. Everytime someone jokingly refers to me as a WOP they're not thinking about how much they've personally profited off of slavery.

"Today the younger generations of Whites resent being held morally or financially responsible for the racial sins of their ancestors, even though as whites, they still enjoy the inherited advantages and privileges of slavery."
I ask you why should we be held for past actions of our ancestors. Did we have control or could we have affected what our ancestors did in the past? Whose ancestors do we choose? Which ones were involved? Shall we do the same with every other country and nations in history that had ancestors that repressed some group of people? Saying that the younger generation of Whites should be held morally or financially responsible is obscene and insulting! Have you ever considered that all those black people that did contribute to history and those black people today that are enjoying life in a 1st world nation could have been still living in a 3rd world nation like Africa or worse could still be "slaves". I guess your biggest complaint is that the White man ripped you off by giving you the shortest month of Feb to celebrate black history month.

now look black history is all well and good. but the fact is that all they do is recap the whole harsh era of slavery and black people just start feeling all indignant and sorry for themselves and feeling like society owes them. many races have been enslaved before us and others are enslaved now but nobody has a "i was cheated and should be taken care of" mentality like blacks do
i think that when we learn to get off our asses and fend for self then we can have a month of celebration for the progress we've made since slavery until then i don't care for this annual whining about how we were wronged. it doesn't change the fact

Here is a historical fact for you.
The black slaves that came to the new world were enslaved by blacks in Africa then sold to other blacks in Nigeria who then sold the slaves to the Europeans. It was the Europeans that brought the enslaved blacks to North America and the majority of them ended up on the Islands. About 5% of them were placed in the main continent of North America where the southern states are currently situated.
This is a historical fact. It is not K.K.K. propaganda, nor a slanted view of the past, nor based on theory, and supposition. It is factual. The originators of the black enslavement were the blacks in Africa.
Still today blacks are selling black slaves captured in tribal warfare. Now in the third millennium! This has been reported more than once in the last five years in major papers here in Canada. What has anyone done about it?
The only action on the current enslavement's of blacks I have seen is one white man running around the three continents of Europe,North America, and Africa getting donations to buy back the imprisoned slaves to return them to freedom. What is anyone else doing?
Is this on the agenda of the black month histories? Do the teachers of the black month history make known the origins of the slaves, and who enslaved them originally?
I think these should be addressed before any more of the black history month is to be taken seriously by other ethnic groups.
