while lifting heavy weights at the gym, I have had experinces of a quick but severe headaches. Similiar to an "icecream" headache . A milder headache may remain then for a couple of days. After having this happen, I have to be really careful when lifting or it reaccurs easily.
Does anybody know what this is? Is it just strained muscles in the neck or possably something more serious.

This sounds like what you are experiencing- Check out the source link for more detailed info.

"Headaches triggered by any form of exercise are known as exertional or exercise headaches. Strenuous activities such as running and lifting weights are common culprits.

Exercise headaches have no underlying cause other than exertion. Although annoying, exercise headaches aren't serious. Proper diagnosis is important, however. Sometimes headaches after exercise are due to a serious underlying cause — such as bleeding in the brain."

you need to check with your doctor ASAP. You could be in serious trouble, or it could be something minor, I've never had a real head ache from lifting, and I can bench press 405 pounds. And I've gone almost to 500 pound squats, but too afraid of injury to go any higher. I've can feel the pressure build up in my head, but I've never developed a headache.
