1. My rats have appropriate wheels that are safe for rats. They also get a lot of time out of cage, playing in a rat-safe room.
2. Rats are omnivours and anything from human food to dog food can become a treat for them. My rats get a huge variety of foods and treats.
3. Rats can drink many different liquids besides water. Use water as your staple and provide low-sodium veg and fruit drinks as treats.
4. I'm here, there are hundreds of rat-keepers around that you will find when you join rat-only forums and groups. My own group Holistarat has over 200 members.
5. Rats very easily slip out of collars and harnesses.
6. I know of a couple hundred ratty websites that I adore.
7. No, they're not. Go to the website Rat Behavior.
Sorry, time rat out on the library computer that I'm using.

i own a male rat.
http://fatratcentral.com/the-basics/diet/ this site has a list of foods that are dangerous for your rat as well as some other great information. i hope you are not using a cedar or pine bedding as it gives off phenols that can be very dangerous for your rat. never give him orange juice as it can cause cancer in male rats. and no pop because they can't burp. ratsauce.com is good too. there is actually a mouse and rat club in some areas. thatpetplace.com sells harnesses and leashes . that is where i order my stuff for my rat from they have a great selection of treats too. you can e-mail me if there is anything else you would like to know.

1. A running ball and a running wheel are great also i let my mice run from hand to hand. it takes a bit to get used to it but they get the hang of it. Also let them run around maybe on a bed or if you have a pen for him let him play in that .
2~You can give them cereals but make sure that it is not too high in sugars ( corn flakes, honey combs, cheerios and such are fine) Also rats love penut butter but try not to make treats the main source of his diet.
3~The safest thing to give him is water ive never heard of giving rats any other beverages but i know dairy can cause diaria and could possibly kill him so i suggest you stick to the water.
4~I am a previous rat owner.
5~I know that their is things of that sort but i dont suggest it they can slip right off of them. Or could choke them if they got caught on thier cage.

7~The answer is yes, I am afraid rats are color blind, but they are as color blind as color blind people, but probably not monochromats (i.e they see colors but their discrimination of color is not as good as that of normal human beings or some insects).
See in Vision:
"Rats and mice have poor vision beyond three or four feet, but they are very sensitive to motion up to 30-50 feet away. They appear to be color blind. However, very light colored or reflective objects may stand out in their environment and cause aviodance among sensitive rodents. Mice are most active at night when light levels are low and rely lesson their eyesight then they do on their other senses, particulary smell and hearing."
Hope i could help :]

1: Mine like to be rolled around, they like to run through an old sweater, I built them a digging box to play in, they love to shred paper.
2: Oatmeal, frozen peas, raisins, cheerios, uncooked noodles, unsalted crackers, rice, apple pieces (no seeds), yogurt or honey drops.
3: Water, and lots of it.
4: Hundreds of rattie owners.
5; I wouldn't suggest trying to collar your rat. it isn't safe for them.
6: Literally hundreds of sites. www.google.com
7: No clue if they are colour blind, but I do know they don't see very well.
